The talks aim to provide an essential channel of connectivity amongst Lewisham’s creative community
The Coronavirus outbreak is affecting everyone, in many different ways, prompting many different responses, both internal and external. The talks aim to provide an essential channel of connectivity amongst Lewisham’s creative community, to continue to engage with a diverse community, to prompt the sharing of individual reflections and to develop insights more broadly on the creative industry in Lewisham and beyond.
Our concept for these talks is to be honest and open with our community, respect each others thoughts and provide a platform upon which they can be shared.

SHAPESLewisham talks restriction and creative practice
SHAPESLewisham speaks with the creative network about the nature of restriction within creative practices, in response to the coronavirus crisis.
In conversation with local practitioners from a variety of backgrounds, disciplines and practices, SHAPESLewisham hears individual stories of restriction from within the creative community and explores the role it plays in the creative process. Together we explored the connection between ideas of restriction and creativity to ask - what can be learnt, through our creative practice, about approaching and responding to restrictions? And what insights can we collectively offer to others?
The topic is incredibly sensitive as the challenges we are all facing are incredibly difficult. The current restrictions in place are of paramount importance to us all, keeping us healthy and protecting the NHS. For some the restrictions have been liberating and for others violently destructive and its important to recognise that they effect us all in completely different ways. It’s also important to recognise that the ability to stay at home and to work within these current restrictions is a privilege - that many at this time do not have.
