Mark Dear
My practice spans drawing, painting, and sculpture, celebrating everyday life and the energy of London’s diverse communities. I aim to capture social realism with optimism, joy, humour, and resilience in moments often overlooked. Influenced by my background in graphic design, and illustration, I blend gritty realism with poetic, romantic expression. My work is bold and human: monochrome pencil lines sit alongside bursts of colour and exaggerated figures that embody warmth and character. Above all, my art is about a personal connection - love letters to the city and the people whose spirit, laughter, and resilience continue to inspire me.

Mark Dear: The Good Yout' From Ghetto Solo Exhibition
The Good Yout’ From Ghetto – Debut Solo Exhibition | Fishtank Workshop & Gallery
27th February – 14th March 2025
Fishtank Workshop & Gallery – 2 Beaconsfield Street, N1C 4AR
The Good Yout’ From Ghetto was my debut solo exhibition, a deeply personal journey exploring identity, resilience, and creativity.
Through drawings, paintings, sculptures, and immersive installation, I reflected on my growth as both a man and an artist. Influenced by subcultures, music, and the raw energy of inner-city life, my work captures the grit, joy, and humour I’ve witnessed in overlooked spaces and everyday moments.
My visual language, exaggerated figures, bursts of bright colour alongside monochrome detail - aims to express the rhythm of modern inner city culture with both style and soul. For me, this exhibition was more than a showcase of artworks: it was a love letter to London, to Catford where I was born and raised, and to the people and stories that continue to inspire me.
