Workshop Support Technician
The Workshop Support Technician is responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations in the workshops and serving as the first point of contact for users. This role involves providing guidance across various making techniques, including electronics, metalwork, and woodwork. The ideal candidate will be a generalist with a willingness to learn, possessing excellent people skills to support users at all skill levels, from beginners to experts. The Technician will deliver formal and informal training sessions, offering advice on design development, modifications, and techniques. They will also maintain accurate training records and collaborate with staff and students to foster a productive, creative environment.

The post-holder must have a degree or demonstrable equivalent experience in a material, making or engineering related subject, which enables them to provide high-level advice to students, fellow staff, and researchers on technical issues.
Must have worked within a student or shared workshop environment with responsibility for supervising and training users.
Experience of advising others regarding design, materials, manufacture etc in either a commercial, educational, or Makespace environment.
Must be able to use several precision workshop pieces of equipment such as: 3D printers, potter’s wheel, laser cutters, sewing machines, 3D scanners, lathes, milling and cutting machines, and computer-controlled equipment.
Must be a ‘maker’ and be able to demonstrate that they are skilled in using a variety of materials.
