Communities & Learning Programme Manager (Temporary cover)

The role is responsible for managing Art Block programmes for children and young people, including after-school sessions Weds-Friday for ages 6-11 and 11-15. Art Block sessions include artist-led activity, free play, games, cooking and socialising.

South London Gallery's Art Block programme takes place in a dedicated space on Sceaux Gardens estate. The space and activities are established over many years of collaboration with Sceaux Gardens residents, most notably through the SLG's Open Plan programme from 2016 to 2024.

A key part of this role is the management of a coordinator and a team of assistants who support session delivery. This role also includes holding relationships with South London Gallery's close neighbours on Sceaux Gardens, Pelican and other neighbouring housing estates.

Key skills:

Program Management: Experience in planning and managing educational or community programs, particularly for children and young people.

Leadership: Strong ability to lead and motivate a team, fostering collaboration and effective communication among staff and volunteers.

Community Engagement: Proven skills in building relationships with community members and stakeholders, especially in diverse environments.

Creativity: Ability to develop engaging and innovative activities that cater to various age groups and interests.

Organizational Skills: Excellent time management and organizational abilities to coordinate multiple sessions and activities effectively.

Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with participants, families, and community partners.

Adaptability: Flexibility to respond to changing needs and dynamics within the program and community.

Cultural Awareness: Understanding of and sensitivity to issues related to diversity and inclusion, particularly in a community setting.

Problem-Solving: Ability to identify challenges and develop practical solutions to ensure smooth program delivery.

First Aid Certification: Basic first aid knowledge is preferred, with a commitment to maintaining a safe environment for participants.

Salary Scale: £35,766 (0.8 FTE – £28,612.80 per annum)
