Collateral Drawing: A Living Archive returns this autumn, marking the sixth iteration of the curatorial project founded by B E A S T O N projects in 2014. This new edition will be presented at APT Gallery, Deptford. There is more to an artwork than its finished state. Collateral Drawing focuses on the overlooked by-products of making — fragments, notes, test prints, maquettes, offcuts, models, material residues and accidental marks — revealing the decisions, revisions, intuitions and misfires through which work comes into being. These traces extend drawing beyond a medium and into an inquisitive way of thinking and making.

The exhibition introduces eighteen new artists working across multiple disciplines, each presenting a resolved artwork and related collateral. Alongside these new contributions and the archive itself becomes a principal subject of the exhibition: a living, evolving record of contemporary artistic process. Bringing together more than a decade of material generated by over fifty artists, the exhibition asks what changes when apparently secondary materials are treated not as waste, but as meaningful forms of cultural and critical documentation.
