Glasgow’s Sulka is the DIY alt-pop project of Lukas Clasen and his new album Bute is out July 2026. Blending intimate vocals, lo-fi aesthetics, and grunge/shoegaze dynamics, Sulka’s sound draws comparisons to Alex G and Sparklehorse. Since joining the Lost Map Records collective for 2021’s acclaimed Take Care and 2023’s Distractions, Sulka has earned BBC Radio play from Steve Lamacq and Vic Galloway, alongside sold-out UK tour dates.Inspired by a mid-winter writing trip to the Isle of Bute, the new record marks a return to Clasen’s self-produced roots, merging early homemade charm with the radio-ready fidelity of his recent studio work. The album explores themes of time, aging, and nature, utilizing field recordings of wind, rain, and fractured radio broadcasts to evoke a sense of coastal solitude.
Bute has already generated momentum with two standout singles: the dark, cinematic track 'Halloween' (“A complex, thrilling listen” – Snack Magazine) and March 2026’s upbeat acoustic alt-pop cut 'All Bets Off,' a unique narrative tracking a volatile relationship from the perspective of a racehorse. The album's third single, 'Meteorite,' has just been released.
“Captivating shoegaze with emotional storytelling.” – Glide Magazine
