Allison Parkinson: Tiger's Eye Books
I am a Lewisham-based children’s author and illustrator. My books celebrate diversity and take readers on fun adventures. They can be about many things – time-travelling 10-year-olds, talking tigers, magical sea glass and opinionated cats – and all of them are, in some way, a reflection of my life and my family.
I was inspired to start writing stories when my daughters were younger because we found it impossible to find chapter books where the central character was a mixed-race girl, like them. So, I created a time-travelling Catford girl based on and for them called Laurella Swift.
Through my books, illustrations, storytelling sessions and story crafting workshops I hope to do my small bit to help more children see themselves at the centre of adventures.
