Adam Wiseman Photography
Born in Mexico City in 1970. I have a BA from New York University in Ethnographic Film (1992) and completed the Documentary Program at the International Center of Photography in NY (1996).
My work seeks to review orthodoxy within the traditional documentary process by addressing the role of objectivity in an intrinsically subjective medium. In recent work; Moving Portraits (2013), Moving Stills (2015), Tlatelolco Disproved (2014) and Arquitectura libre (2020) process becomes an important part of the completed piece.
I began my career as a fine printer for the Magnum photo agency in NY and have since spent over 20 years working as a freelance photographer and lens based artist, 17 of these years in were spent in Mexico City teaching and working on photography-based projects.
I was twice selected for Mexico’s Photography Bienale in 2016 and 2014 consecutively and was the recipient Mexico’s prestigious Endowment Of the Arts SNCA/FONCA fellowship for 2 3-year periods (2012-15 & 2017-20). I was a Photolucida Critical Mass top 50 (2012), recipient of the Best of Show Award in the 2012 from the Photo Review Competition, selected as a PhotoEspaña Visionary and a Prix Pictet nominee in 2013, 2015, and 2019. My personal work has been featured in the Guardian, Porcupine, Wallpaper, Vice, Photo London, Royal Society of Photography Contemporary Photography, LENSCRATCH, Fototazo, Developtube, Porcupine, LATAM and F-Stop Magazines.
I currently teach as a Senior Lecturer at the University of East London while continuing to develop my personal practice.
